Jay began his legal career at the Whitirea and Wellington Community Law Centres, where he gained experience across various areas of general practice. His legal expertise deepened through his role as a Police Prosecutor, where he honed his advocacy skills, successfully managing trials and providing advisory services on prosecution matters. In addition, Jay was used extensively to deliver lectures and training to police officers at various levels on topics such as law, policy and prosecutions.

With a South Korean heritage and a commitment to community service, Jay has actively worked with Māori, Pacific, and other ethnic communities throughout New Zealand and is able to tailor his approach to meet the needs of his clients and the community he is serving.
